MEMBER ONLY
It is a tour where you can learn about the meaning and structure of tatami in an easy-to-understand manner using actual tatami mats and photographs. Tatami mats, which are often seen in temples, Japanese-style hotels, and many other places, have a deep culture, and the way they are laid out and the color and pattern of the edges have meaning. You can also make your own original miniature tatami mat to take home as a souvenir. By learning about the Japanese culture of tatami, you may have a different perspective on your future trip. The event will be held in a tea ceremony room in Japnese garden “Sorakuen”.
Sorakuen
It is the only Japanese-style garden in the city of Kobe, and it covers an area of approximately 20,000㎡. The garden is known locally for its beautiful azalea blossoms in early May.
Tearoom Kanshin-tei
We will rent out a place that is not always open to the public to learn about tatami mats and hold a workshop for making mini tatami mats. The garden viewed from the Kanshin-tei is also beautiful.
Mini Tatami mat making workshop
Please choose your favorite patterned edges to make a small tatami mat. You can take the mini tatami back home as a souvenir. (The pattern may differ from the one shown in the photo.)
