Be guided around Arima Onsen, one of the three famous historic springs in Japan, by the master of a long-established Japanese inn
It is a tour to experience the retro townscape and spring water quality of Arima Onsen. We will guide you through the streets of Arima Onsen with stories of history and food. On the way, we will stop at one of the several springs in the hot spring area to see a demonstration of extracting carbon dioxide gas to make carbonated water. After strolling the area, choose from two plans for your itinerary.
Plan A includes a stop at an Onsen-ji (hot spring temple) to experience Zen meditation or a traditional vegetarian meal.
Plan B includes a cocktail made with the carbonated water created during the walk at a hotel with a relaxed atmosphere.
Arima Onsen hot spring town
One of the three oldest springs in Japan. It is known for its two springs with different properties: Kin (Gold) -sen, Arima’s famous brownish spring containing iron and salt, and Gin (Silver) -sen, a clear, colorless spring. Visitors can also enjoy Arima Sengen, a typical Japanese style of one-story townscape.
Uwanari Sengen(source of hot spring)
One of the seven sources in the hot spring area. Carbon dioxide gas extracted from the hot spring water is injected into your own water on the spot to make carbonated water. Plan B uses this carbonated water to make cocktails.
Onsen-ji temple
Onsen-ji is the oldest temple in Arima, built in 724.
Plan A includes Zen meditation and Fucha cuisine. Fucha cuisine is a traditional vegetarian cuisine brought to Japan in the early Edo period. It is characterized by the vegetarian dishes made to resemble meat and fish cuisine without using meat, fish, or other animal products.
Tosen Goshoboh
This long-established ryokan (Japanese-style hotel) has been in business for 800 years. Mr. Kanai, the guide, is the 15th generation owner. The wooden building has a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Cocktails are served using carbonated water made from the spring source.
