Fukukaiji Temple
This Buddhism zen temple was founded in 1344 by Takauji Ashikaga (Samurai General). Along with Buddha, Daikoku, who is the Buddhist form of the Indian deity Shiva, has also been worshipped here because the Ashikaga family had faith in him.
Zen Workshop
Zazen, a form of seated meditation, is the core Zen Buddhism training. Deep and slow breathing and good posture are emphasized during practice. Zazen is scientifically suggested to be effective as a stress releaser and able to reduce blood pressure. The Goma fire ceremony and sutra chanting will follow the workshop. In the ceremony, participants will write their wish on a small wood stick (Goma) and burn it in the fireplace set in front of the Buddha statue to ask for help from Buddha.
