The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge
Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, a 3.9km-long bridge connecting the city of Kobe to Awaji island, was opened to traffic on 5 April 1998. It is the longest cable suspension bridge certificated by Guinness Worlds Record* and is designed to withstand both strong winds, earthquakes and sea currents. It is illuminated in the night with approximately 1,700 lights. Such a spectacular view of the bridge resulted in its nickname, Pearl Bridge. Access to the observatory inside the bridge is available from Hyogo Maiko Park. (Additional admission fee will cost.)
