Arima Hot Spring: Geiko Entertainment & Lunch at a Historic Hotel

TOURISM OVERVIEW

Arima Spa Retreat
Located in the mountainside of Kobe, Arima is one of the top spa retreats in Japan. Hot springs there are very unique : water was six million years ago of ancient seawater. High iron, salt, and calcium content can treat chronic symptoms like neuralgia arthritis. Many historical figures including imperial family members have paid many visits to Arima.

Goshobo
Goshobo, the oldest hotel in Arima, was founded in the 12th century. Overseas guests have started to visit there since Kobe opened the port in the mid-19th century. Buddhist monks, who were not allowed to eat meat and fish, have developed their own vegetarian cuisine (Shojin cuisine). Dishes with local fresh produce derived from this culinary tradition will be served.

Kinsen
A public bathhouse, Kinsen faces the main shopping street with many traditional and old wooden buildings. It has a free outside foot bath.

Arima Geiko
Geiko in Arima have their roots that date back to the 12th century and longer history than those in Kyoto. Junior monks had taken care of spa guests because hot spring benefits had been linked with religious blessing in Buddhism. They were eventually replaced by females, which was quite radical at that time and boosted up the popularity of Arima. Geiko in Arima are proud of its history and welcome guests with sophisticated hospitality and traditional Japanese entertainment performances.
